Hailed as the “Emerging Pearl of the
Southern Seas”, Zamboanga Sibugay perhaps doesn't ring a bell to many ears. Either
because it's a relatively new province, or it's tucked in an area known for a
lot of social instability. With Ipil town as its capital, the province was
carved out of the 3rd District of Zamboanga del Sur only in 2001. Blessed with
lots of natural resources, the place also has lots of beaches and tourist
attractions just waiting to be discovered. Let's look at a few of Sibugay's
alluring attractions, and more.
Island Hopping
If you're a first-time visitor to the area,
one of the most exciting things to do, is to island hop! Together with a
seasoned local guide, you can explore the up-and-coming Philippines beachholiday destinations in this region.
Start off by hitting the beaches of
Sibuguey Bay and Litayon Island, where you'll just love feeling the fine grains
of white sand massaging your feet, and swim or go floating on the cool waters. Also,
catch the impressive views of the sunset in Naga, Looc Labuan or Gubawang
Beach!
If you still got extra time left, you can
visit Buluan Island in Ipil, the Sibugay Sinking Island in Alicia, Pandilusan
Island in Payao, Bangan Island and more! These areas feature calm, clear and
refreshing waters that are perfect for jet skiing, kayaking, leisure swimming,
snorkeling, boating and scuba diving!
The Snake Sanctuary
If the
swimming or snorkeling is starting to make things a little redundant, then
perhaps you should see the province's famed (and sometimes feared) Sea Snake
Sanctuary in Olutanga!
Don't worry
about getting bitten by these sea snakes because you'll be surprised to find
out that the thousands of potentially deadly sea snakes in the sanctuary are
actually trained and “controlled” by a tribal leader. The Crocodile Sanctuary
in Siay should help to add more thrill to your visit.
Besides seeing the wonderful sights and enjoying one of the most unique
and the best beach holidays Philippines, you should taste the local cuisine, ranging
from fresh talaba or native oysters to grilled squid and other
delectable seafood!
